A dump-truck driver sustained what appeared to be minor injuries after his vehicle tipped over on a work site in Bradford West Gwillimbury Nov. 14.

King Township and Bradford firefighters, York Region paramedics and South Simcoe police were sent to the scene at Hermanns, a landscaping supply company on County Road 27, Thursday at around 10 a.m.

“We got paged out for a motor-vehicle collision — the person was trapped,” King deputy fire chief Darin Chapman said. “We had a dump truck on its side.”

A ladder was put into the truck through the passenger door, allowing the driver to climb out.

The driver sustained rib injuries and was transported, for precautionary reasons, to Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket.

“Pretty easy rescue,” Chapman said. “The staff at Hermanns are good, they directed us in and had staff waiting there.”

Chapman said the vehicle belongs to an outside contractor who was unloading soil at the time.

“The area was a little soft,” he said.

While the site is technically on the southwestern tip of Bradford, King firefighters took the lead among the fire departments here due to a mutual-aid agreement in place for that area.

“It’s seamless,” Chapman said. “Our crews stepped up and did what they needed to do. We had a successful outcome. All the agencies worked well together. We look after that corner because our hall is closer. Vice versa, if something happens in the marsh, Bradford is closer and would get paged out first.”
