Barrie police appealing for witnesses in fatal south-end motorcycle crash

Police are appealing for witnesses and dash-cam video footage of a fatal motorcycle crash in Barrie’s south end yesterday.

On Tuesday, at 3:31 p.m., officers responded to a report of a serious vehicle collision which had taken place on Mapleview Drive West, east of Veterans Drive.

The investigation which followed was conducted by officers from the Traffic Unit and required the closure of Mapleview Drive West at the scene until approximately 8:30 p.m. last night, according to police.

Investigators have determined that a motorcycle was travelling eastbound on Mapleview Drive West when it came into contact with a vehicle that was turning left from an establishment located on the south side of the street.

The driver of the motorcycle, a 34-year-old man from Barrie, was transported to a local hospital suffering from life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead, police said.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing and additional information will be provided only as the investigation permits.
