Provincial police say an Angus man is facing numerous charges after a caller reported a vehicle had driven across their lawn and struck a fire hydrant last night.

Shortly after 9:30 p.m. on Nov. 25, Nottawasasga OPP responded to a traffic complaint about a possible impaired driver in Essa Township, in the area of Willoughby Road, between Greenwood Drive and 5th Line.

As a result of the investigation, Robert Malone, 60, of Angus, has been charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle (alcohol and drugs), operation while impaired (blood-drug concentration), fail to report a collision, failure to report damage to property on a highway, and failure to remain at the scene of a crash.

In addition to the charges, the driver was issued a 90-day licence suspension and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

The accused is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice located in Bradford on Jan. 2, 2025, to answer to the charges.

None of the allegations have been tested in court.
