On Thursday, January 30th 2025, at the age of 74, Jack Verkaik was unexpectedly called to his eternal home with our Lord and Saviour. Jack was the beloved husband to his wife Jackie (née Jermolow), and a loving father to his four daughters: Michelle (Jason) Vandersar, Yvette (Paul) Hawkins, Sue-Ann (Stephane) Lavigne, and Melanie (Matt) Kwantes. He was a proud grandfather to eight wonderful grandchildren: Holly and Luke Vandersar, Skyler and Tanner Hawkins, Julie and Alex Lavigne, Hudson and Olivia Kwantes. Dear brother of the late Wynda, Doug (Wanda), Joanne, Marvin and Paul (Charlene). Dear brother-in-law of Victor (Gail) Jermolow, Zoey (the late Joe) Chmiel and Irene (Nick) Pahor. A wonderful son-in-law to Maria and the late Peter Jermolow. Jack will also be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, friends and neighbours. Jack was born in Newmarket, Ontario, to Jacob and Anne Verkaik. He grew up in the Holland Marsh where he worked on his dads farm. He attended Springdale Christian Grade School. He then went to Bradford High School where he met the love of his life, Jackie. They were married on May 29, 1971 and shortly after, started their family. Jack continued working on his family farm in the Holland Marsh where they grew, packaged, and shipped carrots and onions. After he retired, Jack continued to actively maintain his home property with pride. Jack had many passions including going to antique car shows, taking his classic Ford van for road trips, and maintaining his prized lawn with his John Deere tractor. He loved spending time with his grandchildren. Also when the chance presented itself, he would be sure to take one or more of his grandchildren on these adventures. Many mornings he would also enjoy going to the local coffee shops to meet his group of friends to socialize and enjoy a good laugh. Jack suffered many health complications throughout his life, each time overcoming these challenges fueled by his faith and his love for his family. After so many battles with his health, he is now finally at peace in the arms of his Saviour, Jesus Christ. Visitation will be held at Skwarchuk Funeral Home, 30 Simcoe Rd., Bradford on Sunday, February 9, 2025 from 2-5 p.m. Memorial service will be held at St. John's Presbyterian Church, 2940 10th Sideroad, Bradford on Monday, February 10, 2025 at 2 p.m. In memory of Jack, donations may be made to either King Christian School or to the Southlake Regional Health Centre Foundation.
