Curlers from around the world descended on the Stroud Curling Club for the annual Welcome to the World senior tournament this weekend.
Since its inception in 2011, the tournament spent four years in Stroud before venturing to Denmark, the United States, Scotland, Saskatchewan,, New Zealand, and England as well over the years.
This year, 43 curlers made the trip to Stroud from the U.S., Scotland, Croatia, and Denmark and all are being hosted in local homes.
Sherry Armstrong, who has been running the tournament since its inception, said the athletes have become a curling family over the years with attendees also taking in the local sites.
The event was created during a drive in the car with her husband when they were talking back and forth about what could they do next in curling.
One of the unique things about the event, Armstrong said, is that it’s an individual sign-up. Curlers don’t have to come as a team and pick a tag from a bowl with with their team number on it.
The event ran all week, wrapping up Saturday afternoon before a special event on Sunday that saw the seniors playing with junior-level curlers.
