Thanks to the spirit of giving, this Black Friday will be unlike any other in Bradford.
Bradford Community Church is welcoming everyone to attend their first-ever Black Friday giveaway starting this Friday at 7 a.m. at the church, 2465 Line 9, where they can help themselves to some of the thousands of free overstock and/or returned items donated through CityServe — a network of non-profit organizations that distribute new and used goods to communities — which includes: toys, clothing, tools, bath products, small appliances, shoes, bedding, baby items, pet items, television mounts, children’s playhouses, cellphone covers, Christmas decorations and more.
“We have the best price in town,” Pastor Cory Kostyra said with a laugh.
He explained members of the church are still helping with the “treasure hunt” of sorting through all the donated items, and he’s hoping the giveaway will help people handle the emotional and financial stress that can come with the holidays.
“I think it’s what Jesus would do,” Kostyra said. “It’s been a rough couple years for people.”
While there’s no limit on how many items a person can take, the pastor is hoping everyone will be fair and not take more than they need.
“We want to give it all away and we want to be able to bless as many people as possible,” he said.
As an added bonus, Starbucks is expected to donate coffee to keep people’s energy levels as high as their spirits.
Guests are also welcome to donate non-perishable food items to the church food bank to help in their efforts to support nine unhoused people, but Kostyra stressed there’s no requirement and no pressure.
“We want everyone to be able to enjoy it and have fun,” he said. “It might be a little crazy, but that’s fine.”
