Upper Canada Mall will once again be supporting the 2SLGBTQ+ community with events in partnership with York Pride.
The Newmarket mall and York Pride are hosting an all-ages Pride event filled with activities this Sunday, June 4. The following week, on June 11, similar celebrations will be held at Hillcrest Mall in Richmond Hill.
York Pride will be present on both occasions to provide resources and community support.
“Last year’s celebrations with Upper Canada Mall and Hillcrest Mall were immensely successful, so it only made sense to continue the partnership for 2023,” York Pride development and communications lead Jacob Gal said. “Partnerships like this help York Pride build a network of support from key York Region communities. They also allow us to educate shoppers about the 2SLGBTQ+ community through fun activities appropriate for people of all ages.”
The festivities will include giveaways, button-making, face-painting and more. The event last year created awareness that Pride events can be family-friendly.
“In 2022, shoppers across both Upper Canada Mall and Hillcrest Mall were excited to participate in Pride,” Upper Canada Mall general manager Leah Walker said. “We believe in creating a welcoming and inclusive environment for every member of our growing community and we're proud to celebrate Pride Month.”
The events will run from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. You can visit UpperCanadaMall.com/york-pride-2023 for more information.
"Both occasions promise to offer something for everyone to enjoy as they celebrate community diversity," Upper Canada Mall said.
Oxford Properties, which owns both malls, said it “is committed to developing an inclusive and respectful culture — at our workplace and buildings we manage. And we are proud of the actions we are taking to bring this commitment to life.”
