United Way Simcoe Muskoka’s Youth United program is looking for the next generation of community changemakers.
Youth aged 15 to 30 can apply for one-time micro-grants of up to $5,000 each to support small-scale innovative youth-led community service projects.
All projects must take place in Simcoe County, the District of Muskoka and/or the Town of The Blue Mountains.
“Youth United encourages young people to get involved and address issues that are important to them,” says Brian Shelley, chief executive and philanthropy officer, United Way Simcoe Muskoka. “We are thrilled to provide youth with the funds to make a difference in their community.”
Youth United first launched in 2013 but was put on pause in 2020 due to the pandemic. United Way Simcoe Muskoka officials are thrilled to be relaunching the initiative, which is funded in part by the Government of Canada under the Canada Service Corps program.
“Canada Service Corps is empowering the next generation of changemakers by investing in youth-led projects that create a real impact. Youth United plays a pivotal role in promoting youth engagement, community involvement, and awareness of important issues and opportunities.’’ — the Hon. Marci Ien, minister for women and gender equality and youth
The local United Way is also looking for individuals to apply to be a youth council member. Council members will help to decide which Youth United projects receive funding.
