Hundreds of enthusiastic supporters greeted Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau on his visit to Main Street Newmarket today, Thanksgiving Sunday, with Newmarket-Aurora Liberal candidate Tony Van Bynen.
Main Street was eventually shut down due to the crowd that gathered well before his expected arrival at about 3 p.m. — and who waited patiently when the planned stop at the Lil' Brews Hops restaurant and bar was changed due to the large number of people who turned up.
Notes from NewmarketToday's man on the scene, photographer Greg King:
"It was crazy, Trudeaumania all over again. There were about 300 people on Main Street, some waited for two hours for an event that was over in about 10 minutes. Trudeau actually arrived on time but everyone had to wait while staff reconfigured the event to handle the huge crowd. It was originally planned to be held inside Lil' Brew Hops, then it was moved outside, and finally they had to close the street. It was a pretty friendly affair, only one heckler (PPC?). Trudeau spoke for five minutes and then spent another five minutes crowd surfing back to the campaign bus.
