Every month, Bradford United Church holds a Treasure Sale — an indoor rummage sale, featuring treasures culled from members’ closets, cupboards and basements.
Every treasure is available for a donation to the church and its charities, a bargain-hunting opportunity that can turn up anything from antiques, to Christmas decorations, children’s toys, tools and toasters.
But the Treasure Sales will be taking a break until January.
Instead, in November, the Bradford United Church Women who run the sales will be throwing their energy into the annual Christmas Bazaar and Craft Sale.
The bazaar will be taking place on Nov. 17, from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the church at 66 Barrie St. in Bradford.
There will be quilted items, gift baskets, works by local artisans, a silent auction of goods donated by local businesses, and a hearty $12 lunch of soup or chili, sandwiches, desserts, tea or coffee.
Both the Treasure Sales and the Christmas Bazaar are fundraisers, explained Gwen Green.
“We do give money to Sleeping Children Around the World (a charity that provides bed kits to children living in poverty), the food bank, (Plan International Canada’s) Because I am A Girl, Ronald McDonald House — and then, of course, our own mission work, and if the community needs help,” said Green.
“Now that you think of it, we do a lot.”
Both shoppers and church members look forward to the Christmas Bazaar, said Heather Sharko, hunting for bargains at the October Treasure Sale.
“It creates a feeling of preparedness for Christmas!” she said.
The next Treasure Sale will take place Jan. 26, a special sale just for bookworms.
