Town marks Orange Shirt Day with smudging ceremony (VIDEO)

Second annual event for National Day for Truth and Reconciliation Day featured a smudging ceremony by White Eagle, a proclamation reading and flag raising

Dozens of residents came out for The Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury's smudging ceremony in honour of National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, also known as Orange Shirt Day, on Friday morning. 

The ceremony was led by Bond Head's Indigenous elder, White Eagle, followed by a proclamation reading by the mayor and flag raising. 

A second ceremony will be held this evening at 7 p.m. on the BWG Library lawn with an opening prayer and smudge performed by Asha Frost, Indigenous Healer, as well as a  children’s story time, narrated by Emma Petherick and storyboard walk through the park.
