TOWN OF BRADFORD WEST GWILLIMBURY

In accordance with the community centre master plan adopted by council in 2018, the town has acquired properties fronting on the east side of Simcoe Road between Edward Street and Marshview Boulevard.
With these additions, the town can now move forward with implementing its community centre master plan.
“With these strategic acquisitions, council can now develop a town hall and other community buildings that will really enhance this key section of Simcoe Road,” states Mayor James Leduc. “Simcoe County’s work is underway on its much-needed housing project and we look forward to adding to the transformation of this area.”
Revitalizing the community centre property at 125 Simcoe Rd. has been a strategic priority of the town for over a decade. Public consultation over the past number of years led to the adoption of the community centre master plan, which envisions the site as a town hall, civic gathering space, recreation centre, “Central Park” and affordable housing.
“This area has been an important focus for our community for generations,” adds Ward 2 Coun. Jonathan Scott. “By making these investments, we’re restoring that focus and bringing new public spaces and recreation facilities for everyone to enjoy. The fact that we’re right next to our downtown core creates an even greater benefit as people are drawn to our local businesses and services.”
Council has established a strategic projects advisory committee to help lead the town’s key projects.
Committee chair Deputy Mayor Raj Sandhu advises, “Revitalizing the community centre property is one of our top priorities. We have our first committee meeting on April 24 and I’m looking forward to delivering a town hall, new recreation and park amenities, and a beautiful community gem for our downtown area.”
Work will begin this week on demolishing three of the four vacant houses acquired by the town. This is being done for security reasons and to take the next step on revitalizing the site. The fourth and final house will be temporarily used as a site office for the housing project and then demolished by Simcoe County.
“This is an exciting project,” adds Mayor Leduc. “There is a lot to look forward to.”
