Friday marked the official groundbreaking of the new Toromont Cat remanufacturing facility in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury. The 137,000 sq. ft. facility will be located at 3424 Line 5.
Joining Joel Couture, chief operating officer for Toromont Cat, were MPP Caroline Mulroney, Mayor Rob Keffer, and members of council.
“Thank you for all your support for making this possible,” said Couture. “As a public Canadian company with over 6,900 employees, Toromont is proud to be starting the development of our new component remanufacturing facility in Bradford West Gwillimbury to support our customers across central and eastern Canada.
“The decision to invest over $70 million in this facility is a long-term decision aiming to contribute meaningfully to the circular economy, support our growing customer base and communities across the industries that we serve.”
The facility is scheduled to open in early 2024 and will employ 150 skilled trades at the time of opening, with an ultimate capacity of 200.
“This facility will play a key role in supporting sustainability as we continue to work towards making our communities more vibrant than ever before,” said Mulroney. “BWG is growing so quickly, in fact, it’s one of the fastest growing communities anywhere in Ontario. As our community grows, so does the need for local opportunities.
“We’re moving ahead with the construction of the Bradford Bypass, and it will ease congestion but also unlock economic potential right here in Bradford and across South Simcoe. It will help get Toromont’s goods to market faster."
Toromont will be actively recruiting and training team members at its existing location to transition to the new facility when open.
“It’s great to welcome another new business to Bradford West Gwillimbury and another business to our Highway 400 employment lands,” said Keffer. “Today marks the culmination of a cooperative and very productive process between the Town of Bradford West Gwillmbury and Toromont. Back in April and May our council and staff had the opportunity to tour Toromont’s facility in Concord, Ontario and discover firsthand for ourselves what an impressive operation Toromont oversees in the manufacturing and servicing of heavy equipment.
“The environment, social, and governance objectives are what make Toromont such an attractive company and one that is perfectly suited to Bradford West Gwillimbury. We have long been a community of farmers, stewards of the rich black soil of the Holland Marsh, our council has gone to great lengths to ensure we provide jobs for our growing community while balancing protection for our agricultural lands.”
Toromont started providing services over 30 years ago from a single location and has expanded to over four locations.
