The little golf tournament that could tees off for charity

Friends of We Care has been raising funds for Easter Seals for 35 years.

It’s not a big golf tournament, but it’s one with a lot of heart.

The Friends of We Care Golf Tournament, hosted by Brent Morning and friends, took place at Cardinal’s executive Kettle Creek Golf & Country Club course on June 14.

Friends of We Care is a network comprised of members of the food services and hospitality sectors. The 84 sponsor organizations come together to raise funds to send kids with disabilities to Easter Seals summer camps.

Organizer Brent Morning has a special connection.

A former Easter Seals ambassador, he has made fundraising for the organization his life passion.

He was involved in the Easter Seals Skate for Kids as a child, and for decades, has been involved in fundraising golf tournaments.

But the Friends of We Care Tourney at Kettle Creek is his special project. Once again, the event sold out, as Morning used his extensive connections in the community to reach out to golfers.

“Once you’re on Brent’s list, you’re on for life,” joked golfer David Munro.

Morning, who was at the tournament to help register golfers, was joined by Easter Seals president and CEO and long-time friend Kevin Collins.

“Brent does a great job of organizing this. We never miss it,” former MPP Frank Klees said.

“Thank you for coming — it’s another great day,” said Morning, just before tee-off. “I’m very touched and honoured by the support.”

Friends of We Care has been raising funds for Easter Seals for 35 years. Through a wide range of programs and fundraisers, the organization raises more than $1 million annually in support of Easter Seals camps and summer programs.
