Last year, the Bradford Arts Centre called on community groups to participate in a multicultural event, Tastes of Bradford – a celebration of the different cultures and traditions that make up the fabric of the community.
This year, the centre has partnered with the BWG Diversity Action Group to present the second annual Tastes of Bradford and Peace Tree Day celebration Sept. 29 at the centre, which is at Bradford United Church at 66 Barrie St.
Doors will open at 5:45 p.m. for a community dinner featuring the cuisine of different cultures and nations, live entertainment, and guest speaker Bernie Farber, noted writer and activist, and proud fighter for human rights.
Farber is one of Canada’s leading experts on race relations, and hate crimes.
He has chaired the North York Committee for Community, Race and Ethnic Relations; the York Region Community Safety Committee; and was appointed by the Attorney General of Ontario to serve on the Hate Crimes Community Working Group.
He was awarded an Ontario Certificate of Merit, for his work on race relations, and the Governor General’s Canada 125 Medal.
Recently retired from the Mosaic Institute, he now heads up the new Canadian Anti-Hate Network.
All are welcome to come out to this evening of community celebration, multiculturalism and understanding. Groups wishing to participate, or bring food or entertainment to the event, should contact Rev. Jim Keenan at [email protected] or call 905-751-5335.
