The Bradford Lions are spreading some cheer this holiday season.
Residents can pick up a free concrete heart-shaped stone at Bradford Rental or Decorator’s Edge in Bradford, paint them based on a specific theme as noted by the Town of Bradford, and drop them back off to either business, where they will be laid as a tribute in the spring of 2021 in specific locations within Bradford.
The idea was inspired by owner of Utilicon Precast in Bradford, Richard Moore, who was spotted in the fall placing concrete ‘hearts’ in nearby parks for families to paint for fun.
The Bradford Lions Club liked the idea so much that they retrieved 20 concrete heart slabs from Moore and distributed them between Bradford Rental and Decorator’s Edge where residents could pick one up and paint it in accordance to the themes laid out by the Lion’s in collaboration with the Town of Bradford.
The themes are as follows:
- Peace
- The Lion’s five Pillars of Service: Vision, Hunger Environment, Juvenile Diabetes, and Childhood Cancer
- Memorial to Siem Zerezghi
Each painted slab received will determine where each project stone is placed in the town. ‘Peace’ stones will be placed at the Town Hall on Holland Street East, ‘Lion’s 5 Pillars of Service’ stones will be placed at the Bradford LionsPark on Colborne St. North of Brittania, and memorials to Siem Zerezghi will be placed at the DreamFields pond, north of 8th Line.
“Our hope is that this will provide a meaningful activity for youth (and adults) to engage in over the winter months, that would leave a lasting impression (or expression) on the Town of Bradford, ” notes Jamie Jones, immediate past district governor for District A12 of the Lions Club.
A note that each heart stone is 25 pounds. Families can pick up a stone and return their completed project to:
Bradford Rental – 192 Bridge St. Bradford
Or
Decorator’s Edge – 284 Holland St. West, Bradford
With the town now in the province’s Red Zone due to the ongoing pandemic, this is a perfect project to keep kids busy.
