South Simcoe Police take part in Virtual Torch Run in support of Special Olympics Ontario

South Simcoe Police took part in two separate fundraising events over the weekend

Over the weekend, South Simcoe Police (SSP) took part in the Global Virtual Torch Run, raising money for the Special Olympics Ontario. 

This was the first ever vitual run, encouarging everyone to either walk, run or bike for the cause with a goal of raising $33,000 across the province. 

On Friday morning, SSP staff met at the North Division in Innisfil to take part in a 3.3 kilometre run to mark 33 years of Special Olympics in Ontario. 

Prior to their run, Chief Andrew Fletcher presented local athlete Monique Shah of Bradford with the Special Olympics Female Athlete of the Year Award.  Innisfil athletes David Whyne and Julia Babcock were also in attendance along with Cody Jansma, Director, Business Development Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Ontario.

On Saturday morning, SSP Auxiliary Officers met at South Division in Bradford for a 33 kilometre bike ride. 

In total, the SSP raised $700 for the cause, surpassing their $500 goal.
