The South Simcoe Police Service has expanded the use of cutting-edge automated licence plate reader (ALPR) technology in our fleet.
This new system is now installed in 14 front-line vehicles. It was obtained through a provincial grant and marks a significant advancement in the police service’s ongoing commitment to traffic and community safety. The system automatically runs licence plates to verify permit and plate status, licence status and any Criminal Code alerts. Having utilized ALPR technology in two vehicles since 2011, the South Simcoe Police Service has experienced first-hand the tremendous benefits it offers in combating traffic violations and crime.
Since the recent launch of the expanded ALPR system, the South Simcoe Police Service is seeing a large number of drivers operating vehicles without valid, registered licence plates. We'd like to remind drivers you must still register your plate. It is free and can easily be done by attending a Service Ontario or online at tinyurl.com/mustrenew. Failure to register your plate can result in a $110 fine.
