Skydiver died after releasing parachute at low altitude

A 21-year-old Toronto woman died at Skydive Toronto in Innisfil on Saturday after releasing her main parachute at low altitude

The investigation is ongoing after a 21-year-old woman from Toronto died in a skydiving accident in Innisfil on Saturday. 

Emergency crews responded to the incident that occurred at around 5:40 p.m. Saturday afternoon. 

The woman was critically injured after jumping from a plane operating out of Skydive Toronto at 4th Line and 10th Sideroad in Innisfil. She was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced deceased.  

According to a press release from Skydive Toronto, the skydiver had released a quickly rotating parachute at a low altitude without the time/altitude required for the reserve parachute to inflate. 

"The jumper was a welcomed recent addition to the skydiving community and will be missed amongst the student's new friends and fellow jumpers of Skydive Toronto Inc.," it read. "The team at Skydive Toronto Inc. has been profoundly affected by this accident as they have refined their student training program for over 50 years."

Police are investigating the fatality in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner. Further details will be released as the information becomes available.
