A section of 7th Line in Innisfil is now a one-way street while an environmental assessment is completed — but it may stay that way.
It is the first one-way street in Innisfil’s recent history, according to Johnny Keogh, the town’s communications co-ordinator.
The Town of Innisfil made the section between Yonge Street and 10 Sideroad a one-way going west on Tuesday to allow for the environmental assessment, which is being done to see whether the road should have one or two lanes, wrote Keogh in a press release.
A decision on the number of lanes is expected in March or April once the environmental assessment is done, he wrote.
Residents are being asked to give the town feedback on its project website.
The town also made the road one-way because it suffered “quite a bit of damage” from the cold winter and rainy spring, Keogh wrote.
“By narrowing the lane and doing some patchwork, we are providing a safer route for people to drive on,” he wrote. “The road definitely needs some improvements to ensure it’s safe to use, meets the social needs and respects the environment.”
For now, drivers can get around the area by taking 6th Line or Innisfil Beach Road, Keogh wrote.
This particular section of 7th Line typically sees about 1,200 vehicles every day, but it has been closed to traffic since December, he added.
