This past Sunday was the 9th Annual Run for BWG, hosted by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community outside the BWG Leisure Centre.
Each year the community selects a specific cause to donate to, depending on the needs of the town.
The proceeds from this year’s run went towards the Simcoe County District School Board to help upgrade the schools in Bradford.
The event kicked off at 9:45 a.m. with a word from Mayor Rob Keffer and members of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, thanking everyone for coming together and participating in the event.
A cheque was presented to the principal of Bradford District High School, Peter Stone, in the amount of $3,000.
Another cheque for $2,000 was presented to the Bradford Food Bank.
Following the presentations, the participants did a little warm up with jumping jacks and stretches to prepare for the run.
“These kinds of activities help bring people together,” said Hassaan Shahid, spokesperson for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Youth Association.
“I am very passionate about what the Muslim community is doing with these particular charity inititatives."
Participants were able to choose from doing either a 3km run or 1km walk around the Leisure Centre.
It was a cool, brisk day, perfect for light jog or stroll around the neighborhood.
After, participants socialized and took photos while enjoying some food and refreshments.
The run is supported by the Town of BWG and runs every year in September. The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community has been established in Bradford for just over a decade. They are located at 3999 - 10th Side Rd.
