This Sunday, Sept. 30, the CIBC Run for the Cure will be taking place in nearly 60 communities across Canada – the ‘largest single-day volunteer-led event’ raising funds for breast cancer research and support programs at the Canadian Cancer Society.
One in 8 Canadian women will face a diagnosis of breast cancer during their lifetime – still the most commonly diagnosed cancer in women.
The CIBC Run for the Cure has a simple goal: To beat breast cancer.
CIBC has been the title sponsor since 1997. Members of Team CIBC have been involved in fundraising, volunteering and participating in Runs across Canada – raising nearly $42 million for the cause.
The staff at the Bradford Branch of CIBC have been doing their share. For years, they’ve been raising funds through in-branch fundraisers, and heading up to Barrie for the Barrie-Orillia Run for the Cure. For the past three years, since their region was reorganized, Bradford staff have joined Team CIBC members from Schomberg, Tottenham and Alliston, participating in the Alliston Run for the Cure.
“We’ve been doing our fundraising since July,” said Katrina Mayville – including a fundraising barbecue and a Bake Sale, encouraging bank clients to contribute to the cause. She noted that this year, 12 or 13 staff members will be participating in this year’s Run, as volunteers or walkers, in addition to family members. “We’re hoping to have a great turnout.”
On Thursday the Bradford branch held another, final fundraiser for the CIBC Run for the Cure. “This is our smallest fundraiser,” said Branch Manager Michelle Moonsie – a garage sale, featuring everything from books to donated sports scarves.
Moonsie will be among the Team CIBC members in Alliston on Sunday, for the Run for the Cure, which starts at East Side Mario’s, at 138 Young St. (off 89). Registration begins at 8 a.m., Opening Ceremonies at 9:20 a.m., the 5K run or walk starting at 10 a.m., and the 1K at 10:10 a.m. For information contact [email protected].
There will also be a CIBC Run for the Cure in Barrie, with registration beginning at 8 a.m. at Heritage Park, Opening Ceremonies at 9:20 a.m., the 5K run or walk starting at 10 a.m., along Lakeshore Blvd., and 1K starting at 10:10 a.m.
