This Monday is Remembrance Day, a day to honour those who have fought for our freedom.
Over the past couple years, RBC Bradford has been honouring our veterans by creating a memorial display for fallen soldiers.
This year, the table is dedicated to Bradford's Sapper Brian Collier.
Collier passed away while on tour in Afghanistan in 2010 when he was struck by an improvised explosive device . He was only 24-years-old.
Employee, Francine Grenon, who is passionate about the veterans and their dedication to the country, said this was a good way to keep Collier's memory alive.
"Carol (Collier's mother) and I have become friends over the years and I asked her if she wanted to give some material on Brian and she was very honoured," she shared.
Grenon is also the creator of the well-known 'Thank You' signs seen at this time of year in business windows across town.
Every year, she makes sure all the businesses in the downtown core has a sign in their window for the veterans to see when they come down for the annual Remembrance Day Parade.
She has been creating them by hand for the past three and a half years, with a goal of making 365, "one for every day of the year," she noted. This year, she finally reached her goal, and is hoping to share them with the rest of the community.
"The Royal Bank, we are also very honoured to sponsor a banner for one of the veterans in the community," she said.
The funding for the banner will be presented by RBC's Community Manager, Wayne Brakeboer at the Legion sometime in the next few months.
"We're very involved," Grenon said about the branch's support for the veterans.
"We have to show them (the veterans) our appreciation a little bit better, not only with the poppies but as a community."
Grenon welcomes anyone to come by the RBC Bradford branch to pick up one of her handmade signs to place in either their home or business window. She also hopes to see many people out to show their appreciation for the veterans in the parade happening this Sunday Nov. 10 at 1 p.m.
The parade will travels as follows:
• Holland St. from Toronto St. to Bingham St.
• Bingham St. from Holland St. to Back St.
• Back St. from Bingham St. to the Bradford Legion
Following the parade will be the wreath laying at the Legion cenotaph.
There will also be a ceremony on Monday, Nov. 11 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Bradford Legion at 115 Back St.
