Matthews House Hospice Foundation (MHHF) is grappling with the ongoing Postal Strike as it strives to meet their $250,000 fundraising goal for their Annual Holiday Giving Campaign. Over 6,000 appeal letters are delayed in transit. The letters are traditionally the main source of communication and avenue of support. As one of their largest fundraising initiatives, MHHF relies on the generosity of our community and their support of the Holiday Campaign to continue to provide their residential and community hospice programs and services.

Adapting to the Postal Strike, MHHF is reaching out to the community in as many ways as possible to let them know their donation can still reach compassionate hospice care. This year, the campaign is highlighting the residential hospice care program, which provides compassionate hospice care to over 210 residents and their families each year.

“Being at Matthews House Hospice gave me the gift of having my mom cared for allowing me to just spend time with her. She was spoiled by everyone there; they all knew how to make her specific breakfast which was really the only thing she enjoyed eating and also that Loretta wanted her tea in a china teacup,” says Michelle, daughter of resident Loretta, as she shares the difference compassionate hospice care makes.

Each year, Matthews House Hospice Foundation must raise over $2 million to continue to serve South Simcoe. Matthews House Hospice walks together with individuals and families through the journey of illness and grief by providing hospice and community services to all in South Simcoe County, including New Tecumseth, Adjala-Tosorontio, Bradford West Gwillimbury, Essa, Innisfil and surrounding communities.

This holiday season, they kindly ask our community to consider giving the gift of compassionate hospice care in our community by donating: online at Matthews.House, over the phone at 705-435-7218, sending an e-transfer to [email protected], or in person at 131 Wellington St. East in Alliston. And new this year, you can call us to schedule an in-person pick up where a member of the team will come to you to pick-up cheques and donations!

“Thank you to all who kindly include Matthews House in their giving plans this holiday season. We value the dedicated commitment our community has in supporting our residential and community hospice programs,” says foundation executive dirfector Martina Whittick.
