A dog that attacked a Barrie woman outside of her south-end home late last week has been located and is now in quarantine at an animal shelter in Owen Sound.
Bryan Keene, the city’s supervisor of Enforcement Services, told BarrieToday that although they are unable to release specific details about an active investigation, he was able to confirm the dog and owner were found on Friday, Oct. 7.
“The dog is no longer within the city of Barrie and we are continuing to work with the complainant and owner regarding (if) further legal action may be appropriate,” he acknowledged, adding the custodian/owner of the dog came forward on Friday following the incident which occurred the day before.
Cory Fram, a 40-year-old mother of two, suffered several injuries to her hands, arm and buttocks after being attacked by the dog in front of her Cunningham Drive home, near Ferndale Drive and Ardagh Road, on Thursday, Oct. 6. She said she's having a difficult time shaking off the attack, all of which was captured on her front porch's security camera.
“She’s still in pretty bad shape,” husband Kyle Fram told BarrieToday via email.
He said his wife has lost some sensation in her forearm around the bite area, which they think could be the result of nerve damage.
“We will be following up with the doctor. Also, one of the bites is showing signs of infection now,” Fram said, adding his wife is feeling “mentally drained” and wasn’t able to speak to the media. “It took a toll reliving the experience over and over again.”
Fram says the person seen in the video was not in fact the owner, but rather a friend who is believed to have been looking after the dog at the time of the attack.
“He was essentially dog-sitting for a friend,” Fram told BarrieToday.
Fram also said they have copies of the messages which were shared with the couple via people who know the man.
The dog was returned to the Owen Sound animal shelter from where it was originally rescued, where he was told it will undergo a 10-day quarantine for rabies.
“The dog will either be put down or kept by the rescue (and) not to be sold again,” Fram said. “(That’s) their decision, from what we understand."
Fram also told BarrieToday they have a follow-up call scheduled with Barrie bylaw officers to discuss pressing charges, something he noted they are “seriously considering,” as the attack has caused ”great emotional damage and stress” on not only their own family, but the the neighbourhood and community overall.
