A garage fire that broke out early Sunday morning has caused extensive damage to a house in the west end of Bradford West Gwillimbury.
At around midnight, Bradford Fire and Emergency Services crews were called to a report of a garage fire on Cassells Drive near Bond Head. Once on site, they noticed the blaze had extended into the main structure, causing “significant damage,” deputy chief Steve Hall told BradfordToday.
“The occupants were all able to escape safely thanks to working smoke detectors,” he said via email Sunday. “We are just cleaning up some hotspots this morning and should be clearing soon.”
Witnesses said the home was recently renovated.
Another witness told BradfordToday they could hear an explosion from their residence more than a kilometre away.
New Tecumseth and Innisfil firefighters were called to provide mutual aid and shuttle tanker service, and portable tanks were set up to keep a steady stream of water flowing during the incident.
The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
