Outdoor farmers’ market winding down as sweater weather arrives

Bradford Farmers’ Market will be held indoors in November after outdoor market wraps up Oct. 6

There was a nip in the air on Saturday morning, and visitors to the Bradford Farmers’ Market donned sweaters and jackets as they shopped for fresh produce, local honey, farm fresh eggs, European meats, fresh baking and prepared foods.

Autumn crops have joined the array of produce available at the market – root vegetables, pickling cukes, apples and squashes, adding a splash of colour to the booths.

As the weather gets chillier, the outdoor market, held every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the east parking lot at the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library, is winding down. There will be only two more markets held outdoors, this weekend and next.

The final outdoor day is Oct. 6, when the market hosts a combination Thanksgiving and Harvest Festival, and a thank you to its customers and supporters.

Locavores, take heart: the vendors will return for an indoor farmers’ market at the BWG Public Library, 425 Holland St. W., on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Nov. 3, 10, 17 and 24, and Dec. 1, 15 and 22.
