Our (ridiculous) ideas for increasing the carrot content of Carrot Fest

We’re hopeful the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury will implement one or two of these suggestions

For a festival about everyone’s favourite orange vegetable, Carrot Fest in Bradford West Gwillimbury does not involve too many actual carrots.

Other than the ones typically given away by the Holland Marsh Growers’ Association, that is.

We had some ideas about how to increase the carrot content of Carrot Fest (some more realistic than others), which kicks off today at 4 p.m.

We decided to share some of our most ridiculous ideas here.

Bobbing for carrots

Apples are so last year. Residents can really put their chompers to work while bobbing for carrots.

Is there a dentist in the house?

Wrestling grudge match between Carrot Fest mascots Gwilly and Captain Carrot

Carrot Fest has two mascots. Come on — it is time to see which one is the true leader.

With one being a carrot and the other a rabbit, they are natural enemies.

We suggest they come up with some inventive moves, such as The Peeler or the Cottontail Crusher.

Will we smell what Captain Carrot is cooking? Hopefully for Gwilly’s sake, it’s not carrots.

A new kind of ball pit

Instead of plastic balls, why not let people jump into a pit of carrots? Fun for the whole family!

Rabbit food

Why waste your time with all the delicious food options at the typical Carrot Fest when you could eat carrot everything?

Carrot-on-a-stick. Deep-fried carrot. Carrot on a bun. Creamy ice carrot. Cotton carrot.

Carrot cake? Well, now you’re just being ridiculous.

Carrot confetti

Not sure what to do with those leftover shavings after peeling some carrots?

Save them for Carrot Fest celebrations and toss them joyously in the air with your friends in a shower of orange.

Carrot Queen

Every good festival has got to have a queen, so it’s only fitting a Carrot Queen be crowned not with diamonds but with the finest carrots picked fresh from the Holland Marsh.

For the talent show portion, contestants will perform their favourite songs by local band The Carrot Sticks on hand-carved carrot instruments.

Extra points to the contestants whose skin has the same orange glow of Gwilly, or the U.S. president.
