STATEMENT
TOWN OF NEWMARKET MAYOR JOHN TAYLOR
*************************
I am very pleased to share with everyone that my test result has just come in and I have tested negative for COVID-19. I have been fully cleared by York Region Public Health and am not required to self-isolate anymore. I am feeling 100 per cent healthy again and look forward to getting back to work. My family is relieved and they are all healthy and well.
York Region Public Health has informed me that if you were in contact with me recently, you have no reason to be concerned or require a followup. For more information on COVID-19, please visit york.ca/covid19 or ontario.ca/coronavirus.
I want to thank everyone for the incredible outpouring of support, concern and compassion during this time. The support from my family, friends and the community was overwhelming. While I am now able to put this behind me, I am more aware than ever that our community and country face significant challenges in the weeks and months ahead.
I will be immediately turning my attention to the role that the Town of Newmarket and York Region can play in supporting people through this difficult time. Please remember that the risk of contracting COVID-19 remains low at this point but we must remain vigilant in our efforts to contain it. The best way to protect yourself is to wash your hands with soap and water (for at least 20 seconds) or use an alcohol-based sanitizer if soap and water are not available.
Please practise social distancing and follow guidelines being provided by York Region, the Province of Ontario and the Federal Government. I know our community will stay strong, be vigilant, and support those who are vulnerable. Again, thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers.
