A new Dollarama location is coming to Bradford early this year.
This will be the chain’s second location in town, in addition to the one in the Smart Centre plaza on Holland Street West. The new store will be located in the old Larry the Liquidator’s plaza in downtown Bradford at 118 Holland St. E.
Renovations have already begun to the building in the downtown core. A spokesperson for the company, Maxime Illick, says they are pleased to be opening an additional location in town.
"Simcoe County is an important market for Dollarama, and we are opening a new store in Bradford because we see an opportunity to provide our affordable every day and seasonal goods to new customers, and to provide more convenience to the local population,” said Illick.
"I’m thrilled to see a big, well-known store name coming to the other end of town," said resident Stephanie Horlings. "Hopefully this addition will also attract people to the smaller 'ma and pa' shops in the area."
Resident Sam Tyrrell is also looking forward to the opening of the new location in Bradford's older neighbourhood since most of the big box chain stores are located on the west side of town.
"With the expansion of our town and many new neighbourhoods being developed that way, they need to consider adding infrastructure and businesses to support it rather than having everything in one spot. This will just cause congestion and limit access for those that don't have vehicles," she said.
Bradford mom Jennifer Weening is surprised the town is able to support two locations but is happy to see the new store coming to the mature part of town.
"That is a big step in supporting members of our community who don't drive or have access to a vehicle. That's great," she said.
