The sign on the wall sums it up: “Let’s eat. Let’s energize. Let’s try new things. Let’s love kale.”
In fact, new Bradford West Gwillimbury franchise owners Walter and Christina Jurewicz have embraced the philosophy of the Freshii chain, with Christina donning a T-shirt that read, “Kale vs. Everybody,” for the grand opening of their restaurant.
It’s the focus on freshness, on natural food, and on healthy eating that has made Freshii the “fastest-growing franchise in the world,” said Walter.
The Toronto-based company has now expanded into 15 countries globally. Its more than 100 locations have aimed to build a reputation for fresh, healthy and convenient food.
“We cater to many different types – vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free,” said Walter. “It’s customizable.” And, he said, it’s “not fried!”
Burritos, salads, wraps, soups, and bowls – diners can pick a tried-and-tested combination, or build their own based on a “periodic table of toppings” that not only decorates a wall at the new restaurant, but lists the options, from broccoli (BC) to red pepper (RP).
Walter and Christina opened the restaurant in May, just to make sure everything would go smoothly for their grand opening in June.
“Thank you for investing in our municipality,” Mayor Rob Keffer told the new franchisees at the grand opening June 21. “We look forward to enjoying a healthy meal here!” He was joined by councillors, members of the Bradford Board of Trade, and S.W.A.N. (Successful Women Always Networking).
“Everyone’s been very supportive of us – they’re glad we’re here,” said Christina. “Thank you!”
Walter said he was a bit “nervous and excited” to be operating his first franchise, but he had been heartened by the response from the business community and the public.
“I think we’ll do well!” he said.
Freshii is located at 494 Holland St. W. in Bradford West Gwillimbury, near Starbucks West. And, noted Walter, accompanied kids always eat for free on weekends at Freshii.
