It's an annual tradition for the senior representative of a community to be bestowed the first poppy of the poppy campaign organized by the Bradford Legion.
Mayor Rob Keffer received his first Remembrance Day poppy on Monday to signify respect to our Veterans, especially those who lost their lives while on duty.
“It signifies the kick-off of the current years poppy campaign,” notes Anne Silvey, Poppy Chair. “As long as I can remember, the Mayor of BWG has always purchased the first poppy."
Donations collected from the poppy campaign help support the Legion’s projects such as care for Veterans and their dependents, youth education, and high school bursaries.
To support this year’s poppy campaign, poppy collection boxes can be found at the following local Bradford businesses:
Rexall, TD Bank, Food Basics, Walmart, CIBC, RBC, Zehrs, Home Depot, LCBO, BMO, Scotia Bank, The Beer Store, Sobeys, Canadian Tire, Shoppers Drug Mart, and No Frills.
A reminder that this year’s Remembrance Day ceremony will be streamed live through the Legion’s Facebook page in lieu of an in-person public ceremony.
