The Mallard community flocked to Marshview Public School Thursday evening, Oct. 19, as the Simcoe County District School Board and school staff invited the community to attend the new Bradford facility's grand opening.
Marshview welcomed students in April and hosted an open house in late May. But the grand opening offered an opportunity for a broader community celebration of the Simcoe Road facility that included: songs, videos and a slideshow from students, a presentation on culture and sharing from Anishinaabe Elder Dr. Deb Wilson Danard, and speeches from school and board staff, school council and politicians.
In addition to singing O Canada and a song from the choir, student presenters also discussed the items placed into a time capsule and the school’s values using the school community’s nickname, Mallards, as an acronym.
York—Simcoe MPP Caroline Mulroney was unable to attend in person, but provide a congratulatory message via video.
Mayor James Leduc was joined on stage by Ward 7 Coun. Peter Dykie and deputy mayor Raj Sandhu in congratulating the school community.
