Newmarket retiree Luciano Ricci of Newmarket told his wife he's buying a new electric car after winning a Lotto 6/49 second prize worth $102,894.50 in the Nov. 1 draw.
Ricci, retired from the transportation industry, is a regular lottery player and says he’s been playing since the 1980s.
“I always replay the same tickets at the same store, and I choose my own numbers,” he shared while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his windfall. “When I saw Big Winner appear on the screen, I couldn’t see what I won, so I handed it to the store clerk. Next thing I knew the lottery terminal was shutting down and I had no clue what was happening or what I had won.”
The father and grandfather told his wife about his win right away.
“I told her I want to buy a new electric car,” he smiled.
Ricci also plans to share his winnings with his grandchildren and enjoy watching them enjoy themselves.
“I’ve had some wonderful moments of joy and laughter from this experience,” he continued. “I was surprised at first and I didn’t believe it. Once I realized it was real, I haven’t stopped smiling.”
The winning ticket was purchased at Shoppers Drug Mart on Yonge Street in Newmarket.
