The Ladies Auxilliary of the Aurora Legion are always giving back to the community and planning events to keep residents engaged with their local legion.

Local Legions have banded together to come up with a unique scavenger hunt contest that will get people out of their homes and doing something fun with their ‘bubbles’ for a chance to win some money.

Participants must sign up with a team name and at least two team members to play. To register, teams must email: [email protected] and submit a $15 registration fee per person (kids under 15 do not need to pay an entry fee but must still register with their team). Proceeds will go to the Canadian Veterans through the Ladies Auxilliary Zone E2 who have organized the car rally hunt.

The contest begins on Saturday, Mar. 27 at 9:15 a.m. Participating teams will be emailed a series of ‘clues’ they will need to print off and plan a strategy to win points.

Clues will be lumped into seven different categories where team members must complete ‘General Tasks’ for points. For example, members will be asked to take a picture of themselves with a specific item in their home – such as a dish rack – and then submit that photo by email or text to verify the team has completed the challenge.

Warning: participants will need a car to complete the mobile challenges. Some challenges involve driving to specific historical locations (such as the Legion’s cenotaphs) where teams will need to take a photo of themselves with a historical land item – such as the Sir William Mulock Historical Plaque.

Team members will need to allot enough time to drive to neighbouring towns to complete each challenge: Stouffville, Sutton, Aurora, Newmarket, Bradford West Gwillimbury, and East Gwillimbury.

“The scavenger hunt is a picture/photography hunt, no need to collect anything physical, all picture-related, so it’s an easy, fun experience,” explains Heidi Rigby, President of the Ladies' Auxilliary at the Aurora Legion and organizer of the event. “It’s a day out and making memories!”

Participants will have until 4 p.m. that day to submit their photos.  All points accumulated from photo submissions will be tallied and the team with the most points will win $400, with winners announced on March 28.

Second and third place winners will receive $300 and $200 respectively.

Additional sponsored prizes will be available for all other participating teams including gift certificates to sponsoring restaurants, gift baskets, fruit and veggie baskets, dinner vouchers, cookie baskets, homemade pot pies (made from Rigby's Pot Pie Group), garden nursery vouchers, and family games.

The Ladies Auxilliary with the Aurora Legion has almost 30 sponsors for the event including Ferragine's Greenhouses, Bradford Print Shoppe, and Holland Valley Nursery. Aurora company Timelo Investment Management was the first to donate $500 towards the cash prizes for the winners.

To sign up, register your team with Heidi Rigby: [email protected]
For those that do not wish to participate but would still like to donate in support of Canadian Veterans and local Legions, payments can be made by electronic money transfer to the same email address.
