NEWS RELEASE
TEC WE GWILL WOMEN'S INSITITUTE
********************************
The prestigious Erland Lee Award of Appreciation is presented annually by the Federated Women's Institutes of Canada (FWIC) to a man who most exemplifies those qualities of Erland Lee, who’s support led to the founding of the Women’s Institute, a world-wide organization.
Nominees are evaluated on their contributions and support of local, provincial and/or national Women’s Institute initiatives.
The 2021 award has been presented to Lloyd West, a well-known farmer in Bradford West Gwillimbury.
Lloyd has spent his entire life supporting Women’s Institute (WI) initiatives, from helping his mother, Marion West, at a young age at WI events, to helping his bride of over 40 years, Bonnie, through all their endeavours with Tec We Gwill Women’s Institute, supporting Bradford West Gwillimbury and New Tecumseth and surrounding townships in Simcoe County, Ont., Canada.
Lloyd emulates the mission and vision of the FWIC by supporting his local community and helping to advocate for social, economic, and environmental change.
Whether it’s helping at community lunches sponsored by Tec We Gwill WI, demolition of the hall kitchen so it could be updated into a viable, health-department approved location providing community workshops, meals and meeting space, mopping “burst-pipe” floods in the Hall, or assisting at the many community events put on by the WI, Lloyd has always been a willing participant.
In addition, Lloyd is a strong current and past supporter of many agricultural organizations in our community including South Simcoe 4H Association, South Simcoe Soil and Crop, Simcoe County Milk producers, Simcoe County Federation of Agriculture to name just a few.
In 2019 when Bonnie West was presented the Federated Women’s Institute Woman of Excellence at the Royal Winter Fair, Lloyd was there to support her with their children and grandchildren cheering her on.
We look forward to many more years of support from Lloyd West with his welcoming, bright smile and many kind words to members.
Congratulations Lloyd on a job well done!
