Emergency crews from Severn and Oro-Medonte responded to a house fire on Highway 12 on Tuesday morning.

A local family is in desperate need after yesterday's "devastating" house fire on Highway 12 near Coldwater.

According to a GoFundMe set up by Leah Cronin, Danielle Harrigan and her family escaped the blaze unharmed. However, their home is completely destroyed.

"This is an incredibly tough time for them as they navigate through the aftermath, trying to rebuild both their home and their lives," Cronin wrote. "They will need support to cover the immediate costs of essentials — such as clothing, toiletries, and temporary housing — as well as the long-term expenses involved in getting back on their feet."

The GoFundMe has raised over $1,200 as of Wednesday morning and has a fundraising goal of $10,000.

"If you're able to donate, no matter the amount, it would mean the world to Danielle and her family," Cronin said. "Every dollar raised will help them start the rebuilding process and provide some relief as they work through this hardship."

Jenny Leggett, communications officer for Oro-Medonte, confirms the family has insurance and has been put in contact with victim services.

Leggett says the fire is still under investigation, but it started in the garage area. It is estimated the fire caused $800,000 in damages.

Brooklyn Harper, media relations coordinator for OPP's central region, says the fire was caused by an extension cord in the attached garage, but there is nothing suspicious about the blaze.
