NEWS RELEASE
BRADFORD WEST GWILLIMBURY PUBLIC LIBRARY
*************************
The Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library and Cultural Centre in partnership with the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury is currently seeking members for its new resident-led planning committee of local Indigenous residents/organizations to facilitate events and displays around town for National Indigenous Peoples Day on June 21.
As the library embraces a community-led strategic focus, we’re specifically interested in ensuring that local Indigenous individuals and organizations play a central role in determining how we celebrate or commemorate National Indigenous Peoples Day.
As a cultural centre, we’re also interested in finding ways we can build space to support and encourage community organizing.
The committee will meet once per month from April through June with an honorarium provided for participation.
“The library and town will play a role in supporting the administration of these plans including scheduling meetings, taking notes, and following up with potential artists the committee identifies,” explained manager of cultural services David di Giovanni. “We see this as an exciting opportunity to work with a new planning model, where we take our lead from the residents who have the knowledge, lived experience, and perspective to ensure the activities are relevant, grounded, and authentic.”
Those interested in joining can reach out to the library’s manager of cultural services, David di Giovanni, by email at [email protected] or by phone at 905-775-3328, ext. 6123, by March 15.
