Now every Canadian knows what locals have for decades: Lake Simcoe is one of the country’s best spots for ice fishing.
FishingBooker has released its list of the top nine ice-fishing destinations in Canada. Simcoe placed second, behind Kamploops, B.C., and ahead of Lake Saint Pierre, Que., Lake Winnipeg, Man., and Lake Diefenbaker, Sask.
Lake Simcoe earned a spot due to its accessibility, rich fishing opportunities, and reputation as the “ice fishing capital of North America,” FishingBooker’s Mina Stojanovic said in an email.
“The lake’s diverse fishing spots, like Cook's Bay ... and Port Bolster offer anglers the chance to catch species such as perch, pike, and lake trout,” she said. “With numerous options for guided trips, ice hut rentals and comfortable accommodations, it’s a haven for fishing enthusiasts. With Lake Simcoe taking the second spot, it's a well-earned recognition for its ice fishing scene.”
Lake Simcoe is also located in an area known as a winter destination, with nearby facilities for skiing and other seasonal activities, Stojanovic said.
This is the fifth consecutive year FishingBooker has released the list.
FishingBooker is the planet’s largest platform for connecting anglers and fishing guides, with over 47,000 fishing trips available to more than 2,200 destinations worldwide.
Rounding out this year's ranking is Gull Lake, Alta., Grand Lake, N.B., Grand Lake, N.L., and Lake George, N.S.
