Kids clown around at Bradford library carnival

Next Free Family Saturday event is a Halloween Spooktacular

Once a month, the Bradford Public Library hosts a Free Family Saturday – with drop-in activities, games and crafts for kids ages two and up, all on a central theme.

For September, the theme was Carnival – embracing both the Mardi Gras-style carnival of costumes and masks, and good old-fashioned circus fun. There were games, face-painting, balloon animals, a scavenger hunt, and in the craft rooms, kids could make their own masks, cotton candy and clown ties, or pose for photos in a circus tent.

There were lineups for the free face-painting and balloons – all made possible through the support of the Friends of the BWG Public Library.

The Friends will be hosting their Fall Book Sale this week, raising money for children’s programming at the library.

The event starts with a preview night on Friday, when families will pay $10 to get first pick of the thousands of paperback and hardback books for adults, young adults and children, plus CDs and DVDs. The book sale continues Saturday, 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and Sunday, 1-3:30 p.m. Admission is free on Saturday and Sunday.

As well, October’s Free Family Saturday at the library, planned for Oct. 27, will have a Halloween theme. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., families can drop in for a Halloween Spooktacular, with games, a Spooky Room, crafts, and more.
