York Regional Police are asking for the public’s help in the ongoing investigation after two geese were found dead at Newmarket’s Riverwalk Commons last month.

Since responding to a citizen's call about the birds in the morning of Sunday, June 20, officers have been canvassing the area nearby in search of video footage that may caught the incident on tape, Const. Laura Nicolle said.

“They didn’t find anything that showed the actual location or the area, so it’s still an open and active investigation and we’re encouraging anybody that has any information about it to come forward,” she said.

The case is being investigated as possible animal cruelty, however YRP don’t have any evidence about what actually happened to the birds.

“We don’t know for sure that a person intentionally did this, it could have been some kind of an accident involving a vehicle or something else,” Nicolle said, adding they need more information pointing them in one direction or the other.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7141 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-tips or leave an anonymous tip online at www.1800222tips.com.
