The new Snow Angel program implemented by The Town of BWG aims to help those in need with their snow shovelling this winter.
The idea behind the program is to build a sense of community, helping those who may need a little bit of assistance in the cold, snowy months.
Anyone who is physically able and willing are encouraged to shovel any type of walkway or driveway for a neighbour who may not be able to do so themselves.
Recipients of this neighbourly act can nominate one of these ‘Snow Angels’ who volunteer their time by sending an email to the town for a special recognition kit.
The kit will include a certificate of recognition along with a small gift of appreciation to give to their Snow Angel.
This will be the first year for the program in Bradford, but has proven successful in other towns like Innisfil and Kitchener.
Communications Coordinator for The Town of BWG, Caleigh Clubine noted that in some of the towns she had spoken to, their Snow Angels are recognized not only for shovelling neighbours driveways, but also public sidewalks.
“We’re actually lucky in BWG – some of the communities I spoke to don’t have municipal sidewalk plows, so their Snow Angels program really focuses more on sidewalks because residents are responsible for all their own sidewalks too," she said.
Neighbouring town, Innisfil implemented the program just last winter and has received positive feedback.
“Like any new program it takes a while for awareness to build and they’ve only been doing it for a year, but it seems promising,” said Clubine.
Bradford is looking to have its residents fully embrace the program as well. With all the snow received so far from Mother Nature. there will surely be a need for many Snow Angels this year.
Students looking for community service hours are also encouraged to become ‘Snow Angels’ and have their time signed off by a neighbour.
