Mike Giovanetti is president of the Bradford legion.
That’s Branch 521 of the Royal Canadian Legion in Bradford, Ont.
Recently, Giovanetti took his family on a vacation to the U.S., and while there made a point of visiting the legion in Bradford, Pa.
The visit to American Legion Post 108 launched what he hopes will be a new connection between the two Bradfords, and new friendships that could see exchange visits in the years to come.
“I’m hoping for us, July 4 next year, to take part in their parade,” Giovanetti said.
Although Bradford, Pa. has a population of about 9,000, its legion is larger than the one in Bradford, Ont., where the population now stands at more than 35,000.
In fact, Post 108 is in the process of moving to larger premises, which will incorporate a veterans affairs clinic.
Giovanetti said that, in future, he might visit other Bradfords, looking to build similar connections.
There is a Bradford in England, of course, but also in New York, in Australia…
