A problem with its heating system has forced the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public Library to shut down a few hours early today.

The library announced via email and its social-media channels that the closure would take effect at 3:30 p.m.

This means the Jan. 21 Fun with French, French Stories and Games, and Reads and Rhymes sessions are cancelled.

"We apologize for the inconvenience," the library said in a statement on its Facebook page.

However, the closure has also forced town council — which meets regularly at the library — to take its 7 p.m. meeting virtual.

Tonight’s council session is set to include discussion on policies related to “mega” events of 10,000 people or more, updated South Simcoe Police Service budget costs, and an application for about $27,000 in town funding to help renovate part of the Holland Marsh Square plaza.

Anyone who wants to participate in open forum can submit an email containing their name, address and comments on the matter to [email protected]. The request must be sent before 7 p.m. and relate to an issue on the agenda.

To watch the meeting, visit the town’s YouTube channel.
