An open house is scheduled to discuss updates to the town’s Growth Management Plan, focusing on the Major Transit Station Area near the Bradford GO station and special policies for the Bridge Street corridor, Jan. 20.

Want to learn a bit more about what Bradford has in store for growth management?

There’s an open house scheduled to discuss updates to the town’s Growth Management Plan, focusing on the Major Transit Station Area (MTSA) near the Bradford GO station and special policies for the Bridge Street corridor, Jan. 20.

The MTSA will support vibrant, sustainable growth, with plans to welcome up to 5,800 new residents and achieve a density of 150 people and jobs per hectare by 2051, as required by provincial legislation.

At this open house, residents can learn about what the MTSA is and why it’s important, and how proposed changes could affect residents, businesses and property owners. Participants can also have a say on the plans.

Between 2001 and 2024, the town’s population grew from 23,100 to 48,600. By 2051, it’s expected to reach 84,370 people and 30,900 total jobs.

From 2016 to 2021, Bradford’s annual growth rate was about four per cent, outpacing both the County of Simcoe (2.2 per cent) and Ontario (1.4 per cent) average.

Over the last five years, Bradford accounted for about 15 per cent of the county’s population growth, and that share is expected to rise to 17 per cent by 2051.

Two sessions will be held — from 3:30 to 5 p.m., and 6 to 7:30 p.m. — in the Zima Room at the BWG Library and Cultural Centre (425 Holland St. W.).

No registration is required, just drop in. A presentation will be provided 15 minutes after the start of the meeting.
