Familiar faces will carry on at the Bradford West Gwillimbury/Innisfil Police Services Board, which oversees the South Simcoe Police Service.

Both Chris Gariepy and Todd Canning were again appointed to the roles of chair and vice-chair, respectively, during the board’s monthly meeting on Wednesday, Jan. 18.

“It’s an absolute honour. The board is really wonderful to work with and makes very good and intelligent decisions,” Gariepy said after the meeting.

He was nominated by fellow board member and Innisfil Mayor Lynn Dollin, and said he looks forward to continuing the good work of the service and supporting them in any way possible.

According to a release from the service, Gariepy joined the board in 2019 as a provincial appointee and brings more than 40 years of extensive business/entrepreneurial experience and community engagement to the role. He was elected vice-chair in 2020 and took the helm as chair in January 2021.

“It’s a privilege to be serving the communities of Bradford and Innisfil on the police services board. I feel that it’s important to be the voice of the constituents on the board and look forward to the next year in serving the communities,” Canning said after the meeting.

He was nominated by fellow board member and Bradford Mayor James Leduc, and said he prioritizes maintaining and enhancing the services of the police as both communities continue to grow.

The media release also says Canning joined the board in January of 2021 and was elected vice-chair the following January.

He is an Innisfil resident and serves as president of CUPE Local 1734, which represents education workers employed with the York Region District School Board.
