The Bradford West Gwillimbury Fire Department is recruiting, looking for volunteer firefighters.
But the young visitors who stopped by BWG Fire & Emergency Headquarters earlier this week won’t be applying any time soon.
The kindergarten classes at Fieldcrest Elementary School were doing a community walkabout, and stopped by the station to meet the firefighters, see the fire trucks, and even handle some of the heavy gear used by firefighters in their work.
But they will have to wait at least 14 years or so before they can sign up.
The fire department is holding an open house on June 12 from 7-9 p.m. for anyone interested in becoming a volunteer firefighter with the town, but the qualifications include a high-school diploma or equivalent, residency in the Town of Bradford West Gwillimbury – and a minimum age of 18.
For more information on the recruiting opportunity, see townofbwg.com/careers. Deadline for submitting applications is 4 p.m. on June 19.
