Free carrots for a good cause (11 photos)

Bradfordians celebrate Carrot Fest weekend with free bags of carrots from the Holland Marsh Growers Association

Despite not having a Carrot Fest this year, Bradfordians found other ways to come together (apart) to celebrate the town's root vegetable and support a good cause.

The Holland Marsh Growers' Association were out and about Saturday on what would have been Bradford's 22nd annual Carrot Fest, handing out free carrots in exchange for donations to the Helping Hand Food Bank.

Early on Saturday just outside the Leisure Centre, executive director of the association, Jody Mott and her crew all in matching carrot face maks were set up with their truck of 1,000 bags of carrots to give away and and celebrate Bradford's favourite vegetable.

Town of BWG staff Tasha Bain and Bethany Kuboniwa were also set up beside the truck selling Carrot Fest merchandise of T-shirts, water bottles, sunglasses and pens, with all proceeds going toward the food bank.

Throughout the morning, residents, members of council and local businesses stopped by to show their support, dropping off bags of food items and monetary donations while collecting their free bag of carrots.

Later in the afternoon, Gwilly and the crew, including Carrot Fest mascot Gwilly, headed to Don Cherry's Sports Grill where they distributed the rest of the carrots at the Kids Carrot Fest Karaoke event.
