That was a quick week.
Yes, I know there’s still a bit left to go in March break. But family time always seems to fly by way too quickly for me. We don’t even need to be doing a lot — my ideal evening with the kids involves a round of Mario Party, some popcorn, hot chocolate for the younglings and a cooler beverage for myself. While it's just nice to be able to laugh and have great experiences together, those moments never stick around quite as long as I'd like. Such is parenthood, I suppose.
Of course, if you’re looking to get out of the house, there are some great family activities available this weekend, too.
Here’s what’s happening throughout Bradford and Innisfil in the coming days:
Frightful fun
The Gilford Haunted Mansion: Spirits of the Barn, a Halloween favourite for hundreds of local families, has reopened just for this weekend. Located at 2008 Gilford Rd., guests are invited to experience their nightmare scenario — a doll room, a maze, a witch’s lair, an operating room and a hallway with giant spiders. Come Friday, March 14 from 4 to 10 p.m. (no actors from 4 to 7), Saturday, March 15 from 2 to 10 p.m. (no actors from 2 to 7) and Sunday, March 16 from 4 to 10 p.m. (no actors from 4 to 7). Admission is $8 for adults and $2 for kids. Only cash is accepted.
Drop-in family storytime
Join staff at the Lakeshore branch of the Innisfil ideaLAB and Library (967 Innisfil Beach Rd.) Saturday, for the next instalment of this weekly family event. Expect an hour of stories, songs, crafts and playtime. Get to know other families in your community while nurturing your child's love of books and reading. All ages are welcome, though it is considered most suitable for kids six and under. This event is free, it runs from 10 to 11 a.m. and no registration is required.
Game on
Don’t be bored — play board games. Drop into the Bradford West Gwillimbury Public LIbrary (425 Holland St. W.) for a board game party Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Enjoy the offerings, whether it’s an old favourite or something new. All ages are welcome to participate.
Lace up your skates
Innisfil Smile Solutions will host a free community skate at the Innisfil Recreational Complex (7315 Yonge St.) on Saturday from 12:30 to 1:50 p.m.
Lights Out with Ms. Love
Join Trician-Renée Edwards, children's edu-tainer and founder of The Love and Light Collective, for a special pyjama party and kids workshop related to the joy of family reading time. Participants will play and learn through stories, songs, art and movement. This is for kids ages five to eight. Admission is $2 per person and registration is required. It takes place Saturday from 3 to 4 p.m. at Innisfil's Lakeshore library branch. Get more details at innisfil.bibliocommons.com.
