Are you counting down by days, hours, minutes or seconds, parents?

The Labour Day long weekend is upon us, and that means we’re in the full swing of the back-to-school season. As you venture out for those last-minute supplies and begin to formulate a first-day lunch plan, don’t forget to enjoy some quality family time. 

Here are a few fun ways to spend the final weekend of summer break in Bradford and Innisfil:

Stop in at the farmers’ market

The Bradford Farmers’ Market will be set up in the parking lot of the Bradford West Gwillimbury Library and Cultural Centre (425 Holland St. W.) Saturday, Aug. 31 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. A fixture in the community since 2008, market days feature live music, activities and fresh local food from vendors selling everything from honey and maple products to teas, baked goods and preserves. Drop-in family storytime

Join staff at the Lakeshore branch of the Innisfil ideaLAB and Library (967 Innisfil Beach Rd.) Saturday, for the next instalment of this weekly family event. Expect an hour of stories, songs, crafts and playtime. Get to know other families in your community while nurturing your child's love of books and reading. All ages are welcome, though it is considered most suitable for kids six and under. This event is free, it runs from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and no registration is required. 

Embrace the long weekend at Friday Harbour

The Innisfil resort invites residents to shop The Market along the Promenade Saturday, Aug. 31 and Sunday, Sept. 1 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. There will be a campfire from 6 to 8 p.m. both days; fireworks are planned over the harbour at 10 p.m. on Saturday. Find out more at fridayharbour.com.

The mall has it all

Tanger Outlet Mall in Cookstown will host its back-to-school bash at The Dock, located outside Entrance 6, Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. Enjoy free face-painting, balloon twisters, live music and sweet treats. The mall is at 3311 County Road 89. Further details can be found at tanger.com.

Accessorize for back-to-school 

The Innisfil ideaLAB’s Lakeshore branch hosts Playapalooza on Saturday from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. This rendition will get your kiddo back-to-school ready with friendship bracelets and backpack tags. All ages are welcome to this free event. No registration is required.
